What's good about night shifts is that they don't make you lie sleepless in your bed. You don't have to replay in your mind all of the things that have happened to you and what could have possibly been changed.
Kai didn't want to face it, but work is work and sometimes you have to do certain things. Like working at day time. He knew Aeric was somewhere out of town, summer had just began so he spent all of his free time riding his motorcycle. Kai though didn't feel like driving. He just felt like if he was at the helm right now, he would crash. There were too much energy in him; he felt his fingers grew numb because of muscles in Kai's arms, which were too strained. He wanted to beat, crash and destroy things. Luckily the guy knew what to do in cases like this.
Kai headed home to take his boxing gloves, too bad he left them there. Usually, there was a spare pair of gloves in his car, so that he could go to the gym anytime he needed to. But the old ones had been torn last time he was at practice.
He kept clenching and unclenching his fists, just to keep his hands busy, but it only made him want to punch the first person he meets. Kai used to take sedative pills and they kind of helped, but he most certainly didn't want to be addicted to them. But this time he wished he had them in his pocket.
Fortunately Kai's apartment was close to the bar, where he worked, and it didn't take him long before his was standing in front of his door, which was opened.
"What the fuck
?" he whispered to himself, coming inside. It was getting late and there wasn't enough sun in the flat to see things clear.
First thing that crossed Kai's mind was that Aeric forgot to close the door again. Few ears ago it was a problem of Kai's. That dude is so freaking lunatic sometimes, that when something was on his mind, he would forget everything else and just run to do things he wanted. And it's not a metaphoric "run", Aeric literally ran and very often he would leave doors spread open. It drove Kai crazy, but then somehow Aeric stopped doing that. And he had been closing doors since then.
The second thing that came to Kai's mind was "robbery". A few days before that he saw some guys outside, they stared at Kai, when he parked his Impala and walked to his door. People tend to stare at him, but Kai sure can distinguish between people who are staring at him just cause of damn curiosity, and people who want something. Those guys weren't just curious.
As quietly as he could, Kai came in. In a drawer in hallway he kept brass knuckles, just in case. And that was the case.
Kai's flat isn't big at all. It took him a second to get to a bedroom, the only place where Kai had some things, which were very dear to him; such as his bass.
The tensity grew stronger in his hands, and it wouldn't be surprising if he accidentally smashed someone's head if they appeared unexpectedly in front of Kai.
It was suspiciously quiet, which made Kai even more nervous. Maybe it was too late and there was no one in the flat?
He turned the light on, ready to see his stuff being stolen. Everything was on their places, except for the bass. Kai's heart stopped beating for a second, but then he saw sleeping Alice in his bed. And everything was over.
There was no tension in his fingers, muscles suddenly relaxed and he wasn't clenching his fists with brass knuckles that hard anymore. He sighed with relief.
? Turn the light off
" Alice covered her eyes with her hand. Kai did what she asked for and put brass knuckles on a table.
"What are you doing here?" he asked, lying down next to her.
" answered the girl too sleepy to talk.
"I see that, how the hell did you get in here?"
"Aeric gave me his key
i really needed to sleep and your bed is so comfortable
" she smiled, turning to Kai and trying to open her eyes.
"Aeric gave you his
okaaaay. You didn't close the front door, kinda freaked me out" Kai stared at the ceiling.
"Really?! I slept with an opened door? Guess i was too sleepy, sorry. I also drank your beer, sorry about that too" she kept examine Kai's profile and how beautiful it looked with sunset on the background, which was seen through the half opened window.
"Sure, you were too sleepy for closing fucking door, but awaken enough for drinking my beer?" he looked at her, frowning his eyebrows.
"Believe me or not, but YES! And why are you making this grumpy face of yours? There is a little bit drunk, almost naked girl in your bed, who also thinks that this damn bed is comfortable as hell!" she playfully punched Kai and pulled a blanket over her head, as if trying to use it as a shield.
"Oh no", Kai laughed "This blanket won't save you from being completely naked!"
And he didn't want to take his boxing gloves, go to the gym or take sedative pills anymore.
